'I Won't Give Up on You'
For a child in foster care, it can be easy to think that the world has given up on you. They have experienced trauma that sometimes manifests in challenging behaviors that require extra love and support at a time when their biological parents are unable to provide it. These children need a resource parent with patience, someone who understands that a child’s wounds will not be fixed overnight, a parent who’s going to say, “I’m not going to give up on you.” Uplift Family Services specializes in helping these parents and children in foster care create more stable, loving homes. Uplift has its own mental health clinicians, social workers and family specialists who provide services and supports, so resource parents know they are never alone on this journey.

Foster care is a journey. And you don’t always know where the path is going or how long it will take to get there. Right now in Sacramento County, there are more than 2,000 children on this journey – and they need loving people to go with them. Now, a major change in foster care in California is putting the needs of children first by making sure the same caregiver can be with a foster child for that entire journey. Called Resource Family Approval, it ensures that any caregiver receive proper approvals, training and support to care for a child until they are reunified with a birth parent or are adopted.

All It Takes Is a Heart to Help
Some people don’t think there are foster children in Napa County, but there are. The need is here — in our community. And all it takes is a heart to help. Families are needed to foster children, especially older youth, Spanish speakers and sibling sets. Thanks to partnerships with Lilliput Children’s Services and Aldea Foster Care, Napa County has many resources to support families and children in making forever homes. In this publication, readers will learn that foster children is a community issue and will be inspired to take action by being a foster or concurrent (willing to adopt) family.
