What happens after a child is removed from an unsafe environment? How can the community step in to fill the need by caring for these children? With many children in Kern County in need of forever families, this issue is one that deeply affects both the children and the greater community. This piece brings a message of hope, demonstrating the positive outcomes that are possible by showcasing children who are thriving thanks to their resource and adoptive families. Targeted particularly at potential resource/adoptive families, the piece educates and encourages, helping families gain the confidence to step forward and welcome a child into their lives.

Families are needed to foster children, especially older youth, Spanish speakers and sibling sets. Thanks to partnerships with Lilliput Children’s Services and Aldea Foster Care, Napa County has many resources to support families and children in making forever homes. The California Endowment

Removing Barriers to a Fresh Start

California voters approved Proposition 47 on Nov. 4, 2014, enacting changes to how some low-level criminal offenses, like drug possession and petty theft, are classified. Applicable charges have been reclassified from felony to misdemeanor, carrying lighter sentences. This publication, an effort of The California Endowment and partners, will help get the word out to the general public. The publication explains the law and its impacts, helps readers understand some of the benefits to both individuals and society of enacting less severe punishments for low-level drug and theft offenses, and educates readers on the process to reclassify felonies.
