The American River is the lifeblood of our community. It provides life-giving water to the people and animals of our region. It's also a rich ecosystem that sustains myriad species, as well as a rich environment for recreation. Generations of Sacramento-area residents have grown up on and along the banks of our rivers, staying active and healthy while connecting with nature. Managing the river is a complex task undertaken by a variety of agencies. The Sacramento Water Forum is a diverse group of business and agricultural leaders, citizen groups, environmentalists, water managers, and local governments working together to balance two goals: providing a reliable and safe water supply for our region in the long term and preserving the fishery, wildlife, recreational, and aesthetic values of the lower American River.
